Decorators, builders hit the floor at expo   2008-09-04 - VNS

About 800 local and foreign construction enterprises are showcasing their latest construction products, home decorations and other services at the 10th annual Vietbuild 2008 exposition, which opened yesterday at the Phu Tho Sport Complex in HCM City.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Construction and HCM City People’s Committee, marks the 50th anniversary of the formal establishment of the country’s professional construction branch.

At the five-day building industry event, exhibitors from more than 20 countries and territories have their most attractive construction materials, interior and exterior decoration products, glass, electrical goods, bathroom equipment and furniture on display in 2,200 booths. Products that save energy and protect the environment are also on hand.

Seminars on the newest gadgets and technologies and on issues like European regulations on technical evaluation will be held at the event.

Vietbuild 2008 is a chance for local and foreign businesses to access new technology and expand their market, said Pham Van Bien, head of the organisation board. Local businesses will also be able explore new ways to integrate into the global market.

Organisers will present the Construction Trademark Gold Cup and Vietbuild Gold Medal awards to businesses with the best products and services to encourage better product quality, creative new products and trademark development.

The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on the HCM City TV channel from the sports complex on September 6.

The event was organised for the first time in HCM City in 1998, and subsequently expanded to Ha Noi and Da Nang in 2005. It has become a destination for many construction firms from Viet Nam as well as Italy, Japan, Malaysia, German, China and France, among others.

The rising number of participants reflects the development of Viet Nam’s construction industry. Last year’s event had 630 businesses in 2,000 booths, an organiser said.
