$610m FDI flows into Dong Nai   2010-06-17 - VNS

The southern province of Dong Nai is estimated to attract US$610 million of foreign investment in the first six months of the year, an increase of 52.5 per cent over the same period last year, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee reported.

The province plans to attract $1.5 billion in foreign investment this year.

Dong Nai encouraged investment in the high-tech industry sectors such as mechanics, electronics, information and technology and telecommunications.

The province has 978 foreign direct investment projects worth $17.72 billion.

 

Shipyard hands over first ship

KHANH HOA — The Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard Co has handed over 56,000 dead weight tonnage (DWT) ship to German company E R Schiffahrt, the fourth in a contract to build 14 ships.

DWT is the amount a ship can carry.

The ship, the E R Barcelona, was the first of four completed, the company said.

 

Photocopy paper plant begins

HA NOI — The Viet Nam Paper Corporation yesterday introduced photocopy paper, branded CleverUP.

Up to 50,000 tonnes of CleverUP will be produced a year to compete with foreign paper in the local market, corporation chief executive Do Xuan Tru said.

The corporation said Viet Nam used about 100,000 tonnes of photocopy paper a year, of which 60 per cent was imported.

 

Nagoya route to be resumed

HA NOI — Vietnam Airlines will resume direct flights from HCM City to Nagoya twice a week from August 13.

The airlines began the route in 2005, but suspended it in December 2007 due to low demand.

There are now 25 flights a week from HCM City to either Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka or Nagoya.

 

Da Nang attracts 880,000 visitors

DA NANG — Da Nang attracted 880,000 domestic and foreign visitors so far this year, up 38 per cent on the same period last year.

Included were more than 200,000 foreign visitors, up 26 per cent.

The province's Tien Sa seaport welcomed 31 cruise ships with 20,142 foreign arrivals in the period, up 31 per cent, including the five-star Costa Classica, which arrived yesterday with 1,000 Hong Kong visitors.
