Shop owners hope the New Year means new purchases   2009-12-30 - VietNamNet/SGTT

Retailers are hoping for big returns during the New Year holiday as consumers will have up to three days off to spend shopping.

 

Dang Minh Duc, marketing director of the Best Carings chain said the supermart chain will offer a promotion program, under which a number of products will see price discounts of between 20 and 40 percent.

 

Thien Hoa retail chain said that it will continue the promotion program it kicked off on Christmas day which will not end until January 4, 2010.

 

Nguyen Kim Home Appliance Centre said it would have two big promotion programs which will be run from now until Tet in mid February.

 

Many home appliance centers have confirmed that despite a high number of buyers, they will still be able to provide enough goods with the support of producers and distributors. The retailers have also said that price increases due to goods shortage will not occur.

 

Another retailer also said that December sales are so far four times higher than in November.  By the time 2010 arrives, employees will get bonuses and their “13th month” salary.

 

At Ben Thanh, An Dong Markets and Saigon Square, small mechants have displayed a lot of new products. Ngan, the owner of a cosmetic kiosk, said the purchasing power has doubled since the previous month, but it is still far below the previous year. She hopes sales will go up further during the New Year holiday

 

Food shops on Ton That Dam, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Cach Mang Thang Tam and Ly Thai To streets are now beginning provide food for Tet parties. The shops’ owners said that besides familiar products, they now have the imports sourced from South Korea, Spain and India.

 

Vinatex has launched a sale promotion program, offering the between 5 and 50 percent price discounts on some 1,000 items of ready made clothes. Big C is also offering price discounts of between two and 50 percent for 800 product items, mostly fresh food, processed food, garment and household goods.
