Indochina unlikely to fly again: report   2009-12-28 - Thanh Nien

It is unlikely Vietnam’s only private carrier, Indochina Airlines, can resume its service after a two month long suspension, local newswire VietNamNet reported Friday, citing the Civil Aviation Administration.

Vo Huy Cuong, head of the administration’s Aviation Transport Department, said Indochina has been trying to restart flights since the beginning of December, but it has not completed all procedures required by the authorities.

The airline also failed to relaunch its ticket website on December 22 as planned, he said.

The aviation administration had warned that it would revoke Indochina’s license if the private airline couldn’t resume service by January 1 next year. With the deadline fast looming, Cuong said it would be reasonable for the administration to take such a decision as many warnings had already been given.

Indochina, which opened operations in November 2008, has postponed its plan to resume flights several times since early November this year due to both technical and financial troubles. Before the suspension, it was using only one airplane on the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route, having closed all other services since the middle of this year.

Experts said even if Indochina was able to fly again before the deadline, it would be really difficult for the airline to operate effectively.
