Buy Vietnamese - I start my day the Vietnam way   2009-09-21 - VietNamNet/TT, TP, VnMedia

"I brush with Vietnam-made toothpaste then eat Vietnamese food for breakfast" - that’s how musician Vy Nhat Tao claims to start every day.

And that’s after a good night’s sleep on his Vietnamese Kym Dan mattress.

The Vietnamese goods ambassador has even claimed that he’s trying to come up with a catchy song to encourage others to buy Vietnamese.

He added that he knows many artists who only wear foreign-made clothes when performing but there are many other artists, who purchase local fabric and design clothes themselves .

“If both foreign and Vietnamese goods have the same high quality, I prefer using Vietnamese made goods,” he said.

This celebrity support follows The Politburo’s call to buy Vietnamese goods which has had a reported reponse from tens of millions of Vietnamese citizens - and celebrities.

At a recent Vietnamese goods market day in Vinh Long Province film actor and MC Quyen Linh told local residents: “Why should we use Vietnamese goods? Because this is the way which can help to uphold jobs for our children and grandchildren”.

Linh even claimed he received nothing in return for advertising Vietnamese goods.  He’d even gone as far as refusing the chance to perform on a number of occasions so he had more time to devote to being a Vietnamese goods ambassador.

The two-day market day in Vinh Long province helped Vietnamese producers sell 860 million dong worth of goods.

Local newspaper Tuoi tre on September 18 also organised an online round table talk, where economists, producers and analysts had the chance to talk to consumers about how to bring Vietnamese goods to Vietnamese consumers.

The panel included Vy Nhat Tao, officials from the HCM City Industry and Trade Department, representatives from supermarkets and producers.

Phan The Rue, the former deputy minister of Industry and Trade, now chairman of the Vietnam Retail Association added his support saying: “In order to persuade consumers to purchase Vietnamese goods, it is necessary for producers to educate them.

“Vietnamese consumers have become smarter. They want to know the origins of the products, the safety and other information before making decision on whether to purchase goods.
