Consumer prices in Vietnam may rise 5.7 percent on-year by December 2009, according to Thoi Bao Kinh Te Vietnam newspaper, which cited a report from the National Financial Supervision Commission.

Inflation is expected to reach 8.2 percent by December 2010, the commission also said in the report. This compares with an on-year increase of 19.9 percent in December 2008, according to Bloomberg data.

The country’s credit will expand more than 30 percent and bad debts will be more than 2 percent this year, according to Thoi Bao.

The commission is charged with monitoring implementation of the country’s monetary and financial policy.
