HCM City: CPI increases 0.49 percent in April   2009-04-18 - VietNamNet/VNA

Ho Chi Minh City’s consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.49 percent in April, said Du Quang Nam, Head of the city’s Statistic Department.

The city recorded a CPI increase of 1.88 percent in the first four months of this year, or a year-on-year increase of 10.2 percent.

Commodity groups that saw the highest price rise include food and drinks seeing an increase of 0.83 percent, transport-post-telecommunications services, 0.91 percent, housing-electricity, water-fuel and constructional material, 0.59 percent.

Meanwhile, the price of textile products decreased 0.04 percent and cultural, sport and tourism services dropped 2.33 percent.

This month, gold price increased by 1.18 percent, followed by the US dollar with 0.83 percent.

According to the department, the city’s CPI increase in the first four months of this year is much lower than the corresponding period last year. They attribute to the fact that local people have to cut their daily needs due to uncertain incomes.
