Cam Pha Cement JSC, an affiliate of the Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex), shipped its first 12,500 tonnes of cement to Mozambique on March 25.

Thanks to efforts made by Vinaconex and Cam Pha Cement, the first contract to export cement to the African market was signed in January 2009, said a Vinaconex executive.Together with domestic consumption, Cam Pha Cement is also working with other markets in Europe, the Middle East and South America.

The company has signed contracts with Pionaire Finance Co. Ltd to export 40,000 tonnes per month to South Africa, and with Universal Best Services LLC to ship clinker and cement to the US and South America.

The 6 trillion VND Cam Pha Cement Plant has an annual capacity of 2.3 million tonnes of PCB 40 cement, and is the largest of its kind in Vietnam.

After one year of operations, the plant produced over 1.2 million tonnes of clinker, and 323,000 tonnes of PCB 40 cement.

VietBuild Hanoi 2009 opens

Nearly 400 Vietnamese and foreign businesses are showcasing products at the international construction and building materials exhibition (VietBuild Hanoi 2009), which opened in Hanoi on March 26.

Despite the global financial crisis, the expo, themed “Construction – Building Materials, Housing, and Interior and Exterior Design” has attracted participation from 89 foreign countries and territories, including the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Italy, Japan, China, Malaysia, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, France, the US, Indonesia and Taiwan.

VietBuild Hanoi 2009 will help businesses and managers learn more about Vietnam’s market, its numerous challenges and opportunities, as well as import-export information and activities to best design and implement development plans.

Several new, high-quality products will be introduced at the expo, that will hit the market this year.

Japan helps train express railway operators

The Central Japan Railway Company (JR Tokai) has since March this year provided training for Vietnamese express railway operators.

In the first phase, 10 engineers of Vietnam have been sent to JR Tokai to study within nine months.

Vietnam has asked the Japanese company to cooperate in building an express railway and the two sides have agreed a cooperative programme which includes the personnel training.

Exhibition on 20 years of Vietnam-Germany labour cooperation

An exhibition on the work and daily life of Vietnamese workers who went to Germany since 1980s under the two countries’ labour treaty was opened in Potsdam city on Mar. 24.

The exhibition is jointly organised by the Political Education Centre and Agency for Foreigners’ Integration of Germany’s Brandenburg State and the “Song Hong” (Red River) Association of Vietnamese in Postdam.

Prof. Dr. Karin Weiss, in charge of foreigner integration affairs of Brandenburg State, and Dang Tran Cu, counselor and head of the department for community affairs of the Vietnamese Embassy attended the event.

On show are hundreds of valuable photos and documents collected from various archives over the past 20 years about the work and daily life of Vietnamese workers in Brandenburg.

The exhibition, the fist about Vietnamese workers in the former Germany Democratic Republic (GDR), also highlighted assistance by the local authorities of Brandenburg State to the Vietnamese community.

Addressing the event, Prof. Dr. Karin Weiss highly valued the industriousness, unity and mutual assistance of the Vietnamese community in Brandenburg, as well as their marked contribution to the state’ socio-economic and cultural development

She praised the Vietnamese community for their preservation of Vietnamese traditional culture and education of young generations.

She pledged to continue creating favourable condition for the Vietnamese to intensively and widely integrate in the German society.
She said the organisers plan to bring this exhibition to Vietnam as a message of unity and friendship between the two nations.

VinaPhone announces new promotions

VinaPhone has announced a major discount on all domestic night calls from its subscribers to any networks starting Monday until the end of this year.

The mobile phone network supplier, one of the two giants - beside MobiFone - run by Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), said it will charge half the existing fees for all calls made between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day.

A VinaPhone official said the company would also launch a promotion on the occasion of Hung King Festival on the tenth day of March on the Lunar Calendar (April 4.)

Residents in the northern province of Phu Tho, where the temple is located, and visitors to the place will be offered a special promotion when registering new numbers between March 26 and April 26.

The new subscribers who pay their bills at the end of the month (as opposed to using prepaid cards) will benefit from free registration, a VND500,000 (US$28.7) credit to their account over the first 10 months and a gift valued at VND200,000 ($11.50).

New prepaid subscribers registering the service in Phu Tho will receive a VND30,000 ($1.72) refill card for free.
