Action plan aims to increase trade with African states   2009-03-07 - VietNamNet/VNA

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved an action plan to boost economic and trade ties with African countries between now and 2010.

The country will increase the export of goods that possess the potential for further development, such as farm produce, rice and foodstuffs, as well as boosting two-way trade to reduce shipping costs and raise their competitive capacity.

Under the plan, the country will increase the export of goods that possess the potential for further development, such as farm produce, rice and foodstuffs, as well as boosting two-way trade to reduce shipping costs and raise their competitive capacity.

The plan also covers the import of materials form Africa, particularly oil and gas, and wood. Promoting the implementation of signed oil and gas projects in Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia,  Cameroon, Congo, Madagascar and Nigeria is expected to diversify the influx of oil and gas in accordance with the country’s energy security strategy.

The ministry plans to increase trade turnover with those countries to 2.5 billion USD in 2009 and 3 billion USD in 2010, which will include 1.6 billion USD and 1.8 billion USD from exports, respectively.

The plan also includes a strengthening of trade promotion activities, specifically an increased presence at trade exhibitions and fairs, hosting fact-finding tours and publicising measures to assist local enterprises.

It also suggests the establishment of trade centres and bonded warehouses in African nations to serve brand promotion activities and trade exchanges.

An expansion of cooperation in investment, finance, banking, insurance and tourism will also be pursued to create a favourable environment for import-export and business cooperation in those African countries.

The Industry and Trade Ministry also plans to enhance cooperation with relevant agencies in African nations, as well as drafting up a legal framework, improving the capacity of trade mission agencies and providing up-to-date market information.
