Gov’t approves EZ development in central region

Quang Binh province will have its Hon La Economic Zone (EZ) built into a modern centre for international trade in central Vietnam in line with a decision signed recently by the Prime Minister.

Under the decision, which approves a plan to develop the EZ between now and 2020, Hon La will be equipped with comprehensive infrastructure facilities to serve as a gateway to Southern Laos, Northeastern Thailand and the whole Mekong sub-region.
The EZ will offer dynamic development policies to encourage all types of business, with focus on trade, import-export, services, tourism and sea-based economies.

Thermo-power, shipbuilding, cement production, aquatic product processing and shipping will be considered as core sectors at EZ, which is expected to generate around 40,000 jobs once it is operational.

Vietnamese and Spanish businesses to jointly build policlinic

The Phuc Lam Medical Joint Stock Company of Vietnam and the Constructor Sanjose Group of Spain will cooperate in building a policlinic at a total cost of 80 million USD.

The two businesses signed their agreement in Hanoi on October 28 to set up a hotel hospital with 500 beds and 28 wards.

The 140,000 sq.m project will be located at the Viet Hung New Urban Area in Van Giang district of northern Hung Yen province.

Banking, finance and insurance exhibition to open

The 5th annual international banking, finance and insurance exhibition, with the involvement of almost all of the leading Vietnamese businesses in the sector, will open in Hanoi from Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

The exhibition will offer an overall view of the Vietnamese credit and insurance system, as well as the achievements of this sector over recent years, focusing on the range of new products and services offered by credit establishments aiming to raise their prestige, competitiveness and marketing capacity.

The event will act as a forum for businesses in this sector to share experiences relating to a wide range of financial, monetary and technological activities and will offer the simplest method for businesses, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises in need of capital, to contact relevant credit establishments.

Vietnam’s potential and investment environment, as well as a number of projects calling for investment, partners and technical transfer will be also presented.

A number of seminars and forums focusing on credit institutions’ lending mechanisms, the application of modern management models in commercial banking administration, and brand-building and international integration, will also be held.

Thai firms set to step up marketing in Vietnam

A number of exhibition companies from Thailand have expanded the scope of their marketing activities in Vietnam by joining the Vietnam-Thailand Exhibition and Conference Industry Forum, which took place in Hanoi on Oct. 28.

The forum, the first of its kind involving the two countries, brought together 10 leading exhibition companies from Thailand and locally-based partners.

The Exhibition Director of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Supawan Teerarat said the forum served as a venue for Thai and Vietnamese businesses to take the opportunity to band together in order to mutually develop the exhibition industry in the years to come.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Bui Xuan Khu said exhibitions held in Vietnam by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau will serve to help strengthen the cooperative and trade relations between the two countries.

Since the two countries established trade ties in 1988, bilateral trade has rocketed, with Thailand becoming Vietnam’s 6th largest trade partner in Asia last year.

Total Vietnam-Thailand trade value stood at 4.2 billion USD for the first half of this year, a two-fold increase over the same period in 2007. The figure is expected to hit 10 billion USD by 2010.
