Mobile providers to compete for 3G licences   2008-03-08 - VNS

The Ministry of Information and Communications says that next month it will begin the process of selecting mobile-phone service providers qualified to receive 3G licences.

HA NOI — The Ministry of Information and Communications says that next month it will begin the process of selecting mobile-phone service providers qualified to receive 3G licences.

Four out of a possible seven mobile-phone service providers operating in Viet Nam will be awarded the licences.

The seven that qualify to join in the selection process are MobiFone, VinaPhone, Viettel, SPT, EVN Telecom, Ha Noi Telecom and GTel.

Students to compete in English blog contest

HA NOI — Autralian Education International has organised an English blog contest "My eSpace" for Vietnamese students aged from 16 to 22.

Participants can register at www.my-espace.net for the three-month contest starting on March 1.

Blogs must be composed in English and will be judged on the basis of language clarity and accuracy. Submissions should be between 400 to 500 words.

Contestants must submit a maximum of one entry a week.

First prize is VND10 million; second prize, VND7 million; and third prize, VND5 million. The top-five blogs will get VND2 million each.

Apple’s thinnest notebook on sale in Viet Nam

HCM CITY — The Financing and Promotion Technology Corporation (FPT) is the official distributor of Apple’s newest and thinnest laptop, the MacBook Air.

Weighing only 1.36 kg, the notebook is 1.94 cm thick and has a battery life of five hours.

The laptop has a 13.3-inch screen, an Intel Core 2 Duo chipset with 1.6 or 1.8GHz, an 80 Gigabyte hard drive, bluetooth, a video camera and a multitouch mouse that helps users easily pull, slide and roll images.

Customers can also buy an additional cable disc drive to read discs.

MacBook Air, now available at Apple iStore and IN Store shop in Viet Nam for US$2,120, comes with a one-year warranty.
